Allow AI-enabled interactive reports to use existing metadata

kcannell-2 Public
· Oct 15 2026

Idea Summary
For AI-enabled interactive reports, automatically OR optionally read in all  (or by-column) existing metadata  - comments and annotations on a database object - table, view, materialized view - wherever such comments and annotations exist.

This avoids the APEX developer  having to add  (re-add) Generative AI metadata for every key column.

Why? If one has been diligent in creating metadata - annotations and comments in particular - the AI-enabled IR should be able to read those in and avoid duplication of effort.  And the meticulous column-by-column effort of adding Generative AI settings to each column.

Of course one could via APEXLang and codex generate the Generative AI settings based on existing database object metadata - but it would be very nice if APEX gave us an option to do that.

Use Case
Any and every AI-enabled interactive report

Preferred Solution (Optional)
A checkbox option to use existing metadata, when checked the existing metadata gets imported into the Generative AI settings of an AI-enabled IR.

Perhaps - copy existing metadata (comments, annotations0 into the Generative AI region of each column.

Then, the user can remove any not-necessary and/or tailor any comments/annotation ot the specific use of the particular AI-enabled IR.

This is currently on the roadmap for a future release of Oracle APEX.
