Idea Summary
Today the APEX AI Assistant already helps developers create a data model, create an application and create a page, all from natural language inside the App Builder. What is still missing is the next step: asking the Assistant to change a page that already exists. This idea is to make the AI Assistant available in Page Designer, so a developer can describe a change in natural language (for example “add a Status filter to this report”, “make this item required when Type is X” or “validate that the end date is after the start date”) and have the Assistant propose the corresponding changes to the regions, items, buttons, dynamic actions, validations and processes of the current page.
Use Case
Application development is iterative: most of the work happens after the first version of a page has been generated. Because the Assistant cannot edit, the AI-assisted workflow stops right after creation, and every later change has to be made manually or with an external coding agent working on exported files. Supporting edits would close the loop (data model, application, page, page changes) and allow the whole AI-assisted workflow to happen inside APEX. This matters most for citizen developers, who usually work only in the browser and do not have access to an external development environment such as VS Code. For them, the built-in Assistant is the only AI help available.
Preferred Solution (Optional)
An AI Assistant panel in Page Designer that is aware of the metadata of the current page. The developer describes the change, the Assistant shows a preview of what would be added, changed or removed, and nothing is applied until the developer accepts it. Applied changes should be undoable and should respect page locks and the developer's privileges.
