FullCalendar tooltip rework

Idea Summary

The developer should be able to change the default data showed in a tooltip and have the possibility to use dynamic content.

Use Case

In our current master project, the calendar is used as a planning tool for both health service workers, G.P.'s and employers/employees of connected companies. Since privacy is a core principle in these fields, we use quite some conditional logic to show data or not. This means we do not always want to show the same contents inside the tooltip. Besides this, its not possible to escape special characters in the tooltip when a JSON string is used for creating the calendar items. We do want to be able to use HTML content, since we would like to use some CSS to highlight certain data inside the tooltip.

Currently, we can only override this with either stripping most of the special characters before adding it to the string, or send data without any special characters at all, rendering it as a plain text, not able to style it (extendedProps). Since the tooltip is an actual div (not the browser default tooltip), the parsing of HTML code should be natural possibility in my opinion.

In general, this is mostly a UX/UI feature request and not necessarily restricted to the calendar tooltip only.

Preferred Solution (Optional)

  • When you toggle the option “Show Tooltip”, reveal a field where dynamic content can be placed (either SQL, PL/SQL or Javascript).
  • This data will then override the default “title” content that is added in the tooltip.
  • Optionally, add a drop-down to determine the behaviour of the date / time displayed in the tooltip:
    • Hidden
    • Date + time (the current default)
    • Time
This is currently on the roadmap for a future release of Oracle APEX.
