Change Custom Plugin Icon in Page Designer

oraclebase2 Public
· Mar 7 2025

Idea Summary
Allow developers to customize the icon of custom plugins in the Page Designer of Oracle APEX. This feature would help differentiate custom plugins from standard ones, enhancing the development experience and visual clarity.

Use Case
I'm currently developing a custom APEX plugin and would like to assign a unique icon to it in the Page Designer. The goal is to distinguish it from other plugins easily. However, after exploring, I noticed that there is no dedicated field to specify a custom icon for plugins. This limitation makes it challenging to organize and identify plugins quickly, especially in projects with numerous custom components.

Preferred Solution (Optional)
Introduce a feature that allows developers to upload and assign custom icons to their plugins directly through the APEX interface to support custom icon definitions. This enhancement would significantly improve the usability and personalization of the development environment.

We reviewed this idea carefully, and while it was interesting, we concluded that due to all the internal implications we need to take into account, it is unlikely to make its way into APEX.
