Update the Static Application Files

alexander.mcneal Public
· Jan 8 2025

Idea Summary: Enhance the functionality of Oracle APEX by allowing users to update Static Application Files directly, without the need to delete and recreate them.

Use Case: Streamline the process of updating static application files. Currently, users must delete the existing file and then upload the updated version, which is time-consuming and inefficient.

Preferred Solution: Introduce a feature, such as a link or button, that enables users to replace the current static file with a new one seamlessly. This would significantly improve the user experience by simplifying file management within Oracle APEX.

This is a great idea! You can already achieve this in APEX today with a slightly different approach.

    The team reviewed this today. It would seem that APEX already works as the idea suggests. If not, please let us know with concrete steps and examples.

    @vincent morneau

    The idea is for users to be able to update a static file WITHOUT having to delete it.
    For example, here are the static files for an application:

    If we go into CameraGuyLogoRedesign.png we see:

    In order to update the image, you have to Delete it then upload the new version.  There should be a “Update” or “Replace” button next to either "File Name" or "Save Changes" so the static file can be updated without deleting it.

    If I am missing something where this can already be done, please let me know.

    From the first screen (list of files), click create, upload your new file again, with the same file name. It will overwrite it.
