Create folder management functionality for APEX's Application and Workspace files

paulo künzel Public
· Mar 18 2024

It would be easier being able to have folders or folder like functionalities to deal with static files.

Things likes

- Download the folder content

- View only the content inside of folder

- Delete the folder and everything inside

- Renaming

- Drag and drop

We reviewed this idea carefully, and while it was interesting, we concluded that it is unlikely to make its way into APEX in the foreseeable future.

    Just to be clear, I'm aware we can upload files with folder paths. I just wish we could manage them in an easier manner.. Suppose I upload a group and of files and mispelled the folder or I want to delete it with all files inside, it's quite a hasle at the momment.

    In light of everything moving to OCI and Object Storage (for the better), I don't see there being enhancements made to how we handle static files much.

    @jayson hanes , that's fair.

    If object storage can, provide a better way to handle directories I'm more than happy to use it.

    It still would be nice for our on premise colleagues.

    @jayson hanes Regards!
     While I understand the shift towards OCI and Object Storage may streamline some processes, it’s crucial to remember the diverse environments in which APEX operates. By suggesting that enhancements to static file management are unnecessary due to cloud integration, we could also argue that the need for APEX itself diminishes with alternatives like Visual Builder available in the cloud.

    However, the strength of APEX lies in its robustness and versatility across different deployment scenarios, including on-premise setups where cloud solutions might not be viable. Ensuring APEX remains self-sufficient and not overly reliant on external services not only enhances its utility but also supports users in less flexible environments. Thus, improving folder management within APEX would significantly benefit users by providing a more integrated and efficient experience.

    Hi @paulo künzel ,

    There is no question that this page could use a UI overhaul, including folder management. We decided that we won't prioritize this yet. Maybe we can revisit in the future.
