Allow listing Interactive Grid columns in alphabetic order in Actions/Columns

Idea Summary
In Interactive Grid, Actions→Columns allow to select a way to list the columns or search by column name. At present the order the columns are listed is the order in which the columns appear on the report/saved report. On reports with high number of columns it is difficult to find specific column if we wanted to either change its position/width or to hide/show it. The requirement is to enable the user to choose the list order between report column order and alphabetic order or be able to search by column name.

Use Case
On reports with high number of columns it is difficult to find specific column if we wanted to either change its position/width or to hide/show it. In our applications we often have reports with 30-40 columns and when defining new saved reports our users often complain of having difficulty to locate the column they are interested in. Hence they are asking for functionality to allow choosing the way the columns are displayed in the Actions-Columns popup.

Preferred Solution (Optional)
At the very least I'd suggest a search option (+search as you type) for the column list. I believe that would be a great help.

Alternatively there could be a radio group to switch between list order (deliberately not calling it sort order, not to confuse with report data sorting) with options like eg. “Report Column Order” and  “Alphabetic” .

We reviewed this idea carefully, and while it was interesting, we concluded that it is unlikely to make its way into APEX in the foreseeable future.

I really like this idea, since we have an IG that offers 60 columns. The original version of this app used dummy columns to group the columns by function, but that was a total kludge.

I like your suggestion of “search as you type” on the column list.

I think that your preferred solution would be more useful than the current LOV (Show all, Displayed, Not Displayed).

If it makes this feature more likely to be implemented, I'd opt for enabling the Developer to specify “Report Column Order” vs “Column Name Order”, rather than enabling end-users to switch.
