Workflow

It will be really useful if declarative workflow with BPMN 2 notations added to the next apex feature.

This is a great idea! You can already achieve this in APEX today with a slightly different approach.

Not native per se but, this is open source for APEX (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q77HqPuVN7s).

The workflow process should not only be a BPMN it should be linked to a application flow process such as page link navigations. should be able to define a workflow process into any page process, such as assets life cycle. Procurement → inspection → dispatch to site → installation (can be linked to a customer)  →  removed (in transit) → received at store → inspection done → ready for issue or write off .

While having more workflow-like functionality in the core of APEX is on the roadmap, please make sure you are aware of Flows-For-APEX from MT-AG.

This provides a full blown BPMN compliant workflow engine with specific tie-ins to Oracle APEX and is continually being worked on and expanded.

It is open source and the core is written using PL/SQL and JavaScript so is extensible for your needs.

Definitely worth a look for those who need True Workflow definition and tracking.

We have created a dedicated website for Flows for APEX where you can find great documentation about this open source project: http://flowsforapex.org.

This is now more possible with the release of APEX 22.1 - even though it's not truly “delivered”, the open-source “Flows for APEX” makes this possible today with some effort. https://flowsforapex.org

Newer releases of APEX will strive to make this easier.
