Can I Create a Plug-in to Replace the Interactive Grid (CRUD With a Better UI)?

I've been working with the Interactive Grid for a while, but its design and user experience are not very user-friendly for my use case. I’d like to create a plug-in that can replace the Interactive Grid with a more modern and intuitive UI.

Is it technically possible to build a region plug-in that performs full CRUD operations (similar to the Interactive Grid), but with a different design and user interaction model? If so, what are the main limitations I should be aware of compared to the built-in Interactive Grid?

Any guidance, examples, or best practices would be appreciated.

We reviewed this idea carefully and came to the conclusion that it does not constitute an appropriate APEX feature request.

    Since IG and all APEX components are nothing more than a mash-up of HTML, CSS and JS, then yes, technically you can build anything with near zero limitations. I think your big limitation will be time and patience - it's not as easy to build something this complex, quickly.
