Setting for closing modal dialog when clicking outside of the page

joe.bieker Public
· Apr 9 2025

Idea Summary
I would like a togglable setting in the application settings to turn on and off the ability to click outside of the modal dialog or drawer and have it close the page. This would function the same as the “X” button on these pages.

Use Case
This would help keep an intuitive and easier user experience.

Preferred Solution (Optional)
Here is my current solution. This works perfectly.

This idea is open.

It seems that is like disabling the “modal” feature of the modal dialog.  If this is ever implemented, I would hope the default is to not enable this.

idk - I really like being able to click into the void to close these - it's natural as a user. I add js to my page to handle it.

Thanks for the comments with the feedback.  Just for some good background on the whole “how to dismiss a modal dialog box”, check out this topic on the User Experience stack exchange: https://ux.stackexchange.com/q/1389/57835 - the first comment to the question mentions the “click outside of the dialog box” method - a surprise to me!
