In this learning path, you will learn about how to embed information from a reference doclet into a doclet you are authoring. You can embed available content from Excel-based or Management Reporting-based doclets. Embedded content is updated whenever the referenced content changes.

Working with Refreshable Report Content

Reference doclets contain common report content for use in report package doclets by doclet authors with differing duties.

Using Oracle Smart View for Office or the web, doclet authors can embed content into doclets that are part of the published report in Word- or PowerPoint-based report packages. Doclet authors can also create report content in Microsoft Excel and insert that content into doclets using reference files. The inserted refreshable content is automatically updated whenever the associated file is modified.

Refreshable content can be text and value variables; reference content such as tables, charts, and images; and Management Reports.

Inserting Variables into Doclets
- Report package variables may be created using either Narrative Reporting on the web, or the Narrative Reporting extension for Oracle Smart View for Office. However, you can only define reference variable values in Smart View. Once created, use Smart View to insert the variables into a doclet (in headers, tables, cells, or paragraphs). Variables can be created by any report package owner or doclet author.

Inserting or Removing Excel-Based Available Content in a Doclet
- As a doclet author, you can embed Excel-based content from reference doclets into a doclet. For example, you might want to add a profitability chart.
