Oracle Database 2 Day DBA is a database administration quick start that teaches you how to perform day-to-day database administrative tasks. The goal of this learning path is to help you understand the concepts behind Oracle Database, and to help you learn how to perform all common administrative tasks needed to keep the database operational. These tasks include configuring the database, managing memory and storage, managing users, managing database objects such as tables, performing basic troubleshooting, creating backups for your database, performance monitoring activities, and more.

The primary administrative interface used in this guide is Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Express (EM Express), featuring all the self-management capabilities introduced in Oracle Database.

Install Oracle Database Software and Create a Database

In this lesson, you use the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to install the Oracle Database software and create a single instance Oracle Database. You will also learn how you can use the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) to create additional databases.

There are two types of installation: container database and non-container database. Non-container database installations are deprecated, but continue to be available in this release. Installation of non-container databases is covered in the appendix of this learning path.
The characteristics of the two types of installation are:
- Container databases allow you to implement a multi-tenant design by separating the system dictionary from the user dictionary. You can have several pluggable databases created in the same root container.
- Non-container databases store all system and user information in the same dictionary.
