07:59:55Charles Cowangood evening from South Africa
08:00:07Bela Thinsz StockholmHello from Sweden
08:00:33Lee BurgessAfternoon from Scotland
08:00:34pavulurivDavid where are questions that were taken offline answered?
08:01:20* David PeakeThey are answered in AskTom
08:01:29Bernhard FW (DE)Hi from Lüneburg/Germany
08:04:20Sandro FerreiraGood morning from Sandro Ferreira.. based in Chicago and right now in Brazil
08:04:21Kevin Z.(Chicago)I used application designer (APEX 18.2) on my iPad Pro few days again, it seems it is not that easy to easy ... particularly drag and drop and simulate right mouse click ... Can we improve this?
08:05:18AlastairThemes / templates are awesome, any plans to streamline, revamp or simplify how they are managed and maintained in furture?
08:07:16* Doug Gault@Kevin Z - You were trying to develop on your iPad? That's .... Optimistic.
08:07:23Christian Rokitta@Kevin Z: what is a touch gesture equivalent for right-click?
08:09:19* Anthony Rayner@Kevin Z If you are talking about in Page Designer, we have context menus that work based on the current selection, that allow all the functionality available via right click.
08:09:31Kevin Z.(Chicago)@Christian R: that is the exactly my confusion. per google, I just need hold longer after I click something; however, that seems do nothing in APEX page designer ....
08:10:44* Anthony RaynerWe will investigate if it makes sense for a tap and hold to do the same thing. I have made a note.
08:10:50Christian RokittaAnyway, I do agree with Doug. You are very optimistic to be productive developing on an iPad.
08:12:12Kevin Z.(Chicago)When will APEX supply SVG font?
08:12:52* John SnydersI have used page designer on an Andorid tablet with some success. I wouldn't use it for day to day work but many things work. In 18.1 there was a step back due to a touch bug but should be fixed in 18.2.
08:13:48* Doug Gault@Kevin - Do you mean an SVG Version of Font APEX? If so then look here. - https://github.com/oracle/font-apex
08:14:42Scott WesleyDid I hear Shakeeb say that applications still using jQuery Mobile / Theme 25 should still be fine on 18.x?
08:14:44Kevin Z.(Chicago)excellent, I didn't realize now font APEX supplies SVG font ... cool!
08:15:12* Doug GaultShakeeb may mention this but Font APEX is open source.
08:15:49* David Peake@Scott - Yes but developers should migrate Mobile UI to Universal Theme ASAP
08:15:53HEIFIIs there an stacking option for Font Apex planned?
08:15:59Kyle WilsonHi guys, I want to subscribe to a region between pages; meaning that I can place/present the region wherever/however I want on the page in multiple pages. Aside from one-time copying or using the global page feature, is there any way to deep link to a report region? Version: 5.1.4 Environment: Oracle 12G
08:16:50* David Peake@HEIFI - What do you mean by stacking option?
08:17:07HEIFIStacking different icons on top of each other
08:17:18Kevin Z.(Chicago)Does Oracle provide a CDN for Font APEX?
08:17:22HEIFIhttps://fontawesome.com/how-to-use/on-the-web/styling/stacking-icons
08:17:44HEIFIVery nice feature for Font Awesome unfortunately not for Font Apex
08:17:49* Doug Gault@Kyle - If I understand your question, you want to define a region once and reference/use it on various other pages , but not necessarily always in the same place on a screen. Currently there is not inherent way to do this. The Global Page is currently the way we have to display a region on more than one pate.
08:17:54* David Peake@HEIFI - I will ask Shakeeb during the Q&A
08:18:01HEIFIThanks!
08:18:20HEIFIImportant: Icon modifiers are nice but limited
08:18:51Juergen Schuster@HEIFI As far as I know not yet only with the modifiers
08:19:18Kevin Z.(Chicago)Can APEX provide a theme based on bootstrap?
08:19:34Kyle Wilson@Doug yes, that’s exactly what I want. Ok, thanks!
08:20:00* David Peake@Kevin - No we only plan to have a single theme = Universal Theme
08:20:05* Doug Gault@Kevin - You can build a theme based on Bootstrap if you build a theme from scratch.
08:20:36* Doug GaultVincent From Insum did this http://vmorneau.me/introducing-apex-bootstrap-4-theme/
08:21:00Scott WesleyHave the screen resolution classes I saw in a previous presentation been documented?
08:21:05* David Peake@Kevin - Custom Themes will continue to be supported but Oracle will only be supplying Universal Theme
08:21:27Kevin Z.(Chicago)bootstrap is so popular, if Oracle APEX provides one extra theme based bootstrap, that will be super ... has few options are always good ...
08:21:41* Anthony Rayner@Kevin: We do now provide all the Oracle APEX Static resources via CDN, and part of those resources is the Font APEX library. So in theory yes, for example you could get the latest Font APEX version via this link (via the CDN): https://static.oracle.com/cdn/apex/18.2.0.00.12/libraries/font-apex/latest/
08:22:03* Anthony Rayner@Kevin: Here’s the recent blog post where we announced the CDN: https://blogs.oracle.com/apex/announcing-oracle-apex-static-resources-on-oracle-content-delivery-network
08:22:14* David Peake@Scott - I will ask Shakeeb during Q&A
08:24:31* Anthony Raynerapex.oracle.com/ut
08:25:24Juergen Schuster@Scott: https://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=42:300:::NO:::
08:25:33Charles Cowanis there any way to "shrink" these fields... there is a lot of real estate used (the label shrinks but the field is still double the height .... I have seen there are options for "default" or "Large" or "Extra large"
08:25:56Charles Cowanthere is also a lot of space in-between these fields.. . it seems you cannot "stack them"
08:28:13Scott WesleyI'd like to see more SQL examples in /ut that we can use as template to generate content dynamically, like the one shown in Cards. Classic reports allow us to do more than just cards report template.
08:29:09Scott WesleyRadio groups as pill buttons are so underrated.
08:29:18Christian Rokitta@charles: If you don't like floating labels, you can use fields without labels and just use placeholders instead?!
08:30:11Ross HendersonHi. In regards to custom themes/templates, will there be any improvements made to the maintenance and management of them? At the moment it's a little complicated and can very quickly get messy.
08:31:22Scott WesleyHide when all rows displayed - I have a draft post on a workaround for this!
08:31:50Charles Cowanwe really like the floating labels... just seems to be quite a lot of real estate... especially if you are using say a modal page on desktop and mobile... on mobile it's great but on desktop it's using a lot of space... If you consider that the height of the label shrinks when it repositions above the field then it doesnt make sense (to me) that the height for the label is the same as for the data
08:32:06* Doug Gault@Ross - We're always trying to improve usability across the board. What specifically are you talking about in terms of difficulties or things "getting messy".
08:32:36Christian Rokitta@ross: How are custom themes/templates more messy compared to standard themes/templates?
08:32:40Pete Kyou could also use the value placeholder attribute to work a little like a floating label, perhaps.
08:32:55* Anthony Rayner@Christian / Charles / Pete K: I would advise against using placeholder alone for labels, as this represents an accessibility issue (mainly around the fact you can no longer see the label when there is a value in the field)
08:34:12* David Peake@Charles - Are you asking for non-floating labels when run on desktop screens and floating on mobile screens?
08:34:27Charles Cowansince there is a LARGE and EXTRA LARGE option... Please can we get a SMALL option ;)
08:34:45Charles Cowani was trying with floating on both desktop and mobile
08:34:47Pete KIndeed, hence 'perhaps' ;-) Accessibility is a big deal for us as a 'public service' provider.
08:35:22* Anthony Rayner:-) Let me know if you have any other feedback / questions about accessibility in APEX, at anthony.rayner@oracle.com. Be happy to help
08:36:16Kyle WilsonWhat resources would you guys recommend for advanced APEX customization (using your own CSS/JS/HTML, using webservices, etc)? I’m pretty new to APEX and love what I’m seeing in these demos
08:37:14* Doug Gault@Kevin - Do you know about http://apex.world ? It's a great resource.
08:38:07* Doug GaultAlso - just go to apex.oracle.com - there is a lot there too.
08:38:25Juergen Schuster@Kyle: Try first to find out all possibilities in APEX itself then you will be busy for the next years. Check apex.oracle.com/ut the Sample Apps and Plug-ins. Then you know what’s out there and based on that you naturally learn how to enhance things
08:39:29rohit.chaurasiahow did we got this sql quick hand.
08:39:42Scott Wesley"Quick SQL"
08:40:01* David PeakeGo to SQL Workshop > SQL Scripts and click on Quick SQL
08:40:01rohit.chaurasiais it a new option in APEX 18.1?
08:40:03Eric OlsonIt's a packaged application in Apex.
08:40:26* David PeakeQuick SQL as 1st introduced in APEX 5.1
08:40:39* David PeakeIt is a built-in feature not a packaged app
08:40:43Juergen Schuster@rohit: and it is available on livesql.oralce.com
08:41:16rohit.chaurasiaoh thanks. i am currently working in apex 4.2
08:41:19* David PeakeTo use standalone (outside of APEX) go to https://quicksql.oracle.com
08:41:26rohit.chaurasiaso was not aware of it.
08:41:40Eric OlsonIt's built in as of 18, I think. PA in 5.
08:42:28* David Peake@Rohit - Sign up on apex.oracle.com and play with it there is best way to learn
08:43:55ElizabethIs that a browser plugin that runs the apex app in both desktop and mobile?
08:44:14Lee BurgessI'm a very new APEX developer, I was wondering how easy it would be to convert a fully fledged web app into a mobile app? (or if it is possible at all??)
08:44:20rohit.chaurasiathanks david.
08:44:39* David PeakeYou should look to upgrade as APEX 4.2 no longer supported
08:45:02Juergen Schuster@Lee: This is what Shakeeb is showing right now? Other than that start with "Mobile First"
08:45:04* Anthony Rayner@Elizabeth: It’s just standard web browser behaviour, no need for any plugins.
08:45:35Elizabeththank you @Anthony
08:45:46* Anthony RaynerNo probs!
08:46:19Allan SittersonRemove comma after attribute 4
08:46:45PaulSorry I looked away for a second, where did the sample code come from for the report being built at the moment?
08:47:19rohit.chaurasiathanks david. will do it. do we have any official link which i can show to my client and convince him that apex 4.2 is no longer supported and we should upgrade to 5.
08:47:21* Anthony Raynerapex.oracle.com/ut, then select ‘Components’, then ‘Comments’ then scroll down
08:47:26* David Peake@Pauk - from apex.oracle.com/ut > Components then select Comments and look at the Sample Code
08:47:28Ross Henderson@Doug @Christian To try and explain a bit more: 1. Why are the template definitions split out? It can be very difficult to visualise the changes you're making or if you're changing the right thing. 2. Do you have any docs about the overall architecture of the themes and templates and how they work together? Basically, it's hard to understand what to change past using the Theme roller and nothing more. Also, is there any way you could create a way to have a preview of changes made to a template/theme before saving and launching? Kind of like a live preview.
08:48:19Paul@David, thanks!
08:49:20* David Peake@Rohit - To see supported versions of APEX go here https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/learnmore/apex-support-1866620.html
08:50:07* Doug Gault@Ross... We'll feed this back to Shakeeb and team.
08:50:34rohit.chaurasiathanks again david. this will be really helpful.
08:52:58Ross Henderson@Doug Thanks!
08:53:00* Doug GaultIs that what you were looking for @Scott
08:53:09Scott WesleyDavid, I think I see what I see what I was asking about - I've been using the 5.x /ut app as a reference too often.
08:53:09Christian Rokitta@Ross: documentation is sparse
08:54:03Christian Rokitta@shakeeb: will there be server-side conditions to distinguish between desktop and mobile?
08:54:04Olivia Dingso cool of this part
08:54:06Eric OlsonThis hidden-ss-up stuff, still renders both reports on both screens, right? It's all rendered, just not displayed?
08:54:20Theresa GalvezChristina...I agree! documentation is very limited
08:54:28Juergen Schuster@Eric: Yes
08:55:09Vito CampanelliIs there a way to show hamburger menu for XS and above but have top menus for XS and below?
08:55:21Theresa GalvezI 2nd Paul's question/suggestion: Basically, it's hard to understand what to change past using the Theme roller and nothing more. Also, is there any way you could create a way to have a preview of changes made to a template/theme before saving and launching? Kind of like a live preview.
08:56:13* David Peake@Vitto - Will ask Shakeeb during Q&A
08:56:38* David Peake@ Paul / Theresa - We will look into this in a future release
08:57:10Scott WesleyI guess we can define server side conditions now, but only based on the size of the window in the previous page. It would be nice to see declarative options in this regard in future versions, as a replacement to user interfaces.
08:58:23Christian Rokitta@scott: UT is adding classes to the HTML/doc body. I guess APEX is using some kind of server-side evaluation for this
08:58:32Steffen ClaußGreat demo Shakeeb - thanks :-)
08:58:54dafei wangMany thanks
08:59:00AlastairI agree with @Ross
08:59:02Scott Wesleyno, I think it's all css media query based, but it could be leveraged to set items on login/page load, for the next page.
08:59:35* Chaitanya Koratamaddihere’s the twitter app export https://www.dropbox.com/s/m3b9au0h014v8kw/apex-twitter-app-demo.sql.zip?dl=0
09:00:52AlastairI also agree with @Paul
09:01:00Bela Thinsz StockholmHow to implement Floating labels in older applications, in a easy way
09:01:14FredericGreat demo, with APEX the futur look brillant, Is there a demo application availiable?
09:01:29Kyle Hu@Bela you have to upgrade to the latest Universal Theme.
09:01:34* Chaitanya Koratamaddi@Frederic https://www.dropbox.com/s/m3b9au0h014v8kw/apex-twitter-app-demo.sql.zip?dl=0
09:01:46Kevin Z.(Chicago)Will future APEX stop support low/old Oracle DB, for example DBMS 10g/11g?
09:02:59Ross HendersonDoes APEX have any plans to drop support for IE11 at any point? (please...)
09:03:08Kevin Z.(Chicago)Similar question: will future APEX stop support old browser: for example IE11 ...
09:03:11Charles Cowanthe label is small but it's space is big :)
09:04:10Kevin Z.(Chicago)both Ross and I asked the same question, can you answer: Does APEX have any plans to drop support for IE11 at any point? (please...)
09:04:37AlastairIgnore @Ross, I need IE11 support for now
09:04:56Paul@David, could you ask if any plans for those screen size css classes to be server side conditions?
09:05:09* Anthony RaynerOracle 18 requires Oracle DB 11.2 already, so is not supported on DB 10
09:05:18Juergen SchusterThe APEX Apps working on IE11 the AppBuilder haven’t tried :-)
09:05:31Olivia Dingdo you have a blog, Shakeeb?
09:05:37Charles Cowanthank you
09:05:37Ross HendersonCheers guys
09:05:42Kevin Z.(Chicago)excellent session!!! Thank you!!!
09:05:44AlastairThanks everyone
09:05:51AlastairReally appricaite these updates
09:05:52jzalazarThanks Shakeeb & David!!
