About This Workshop
This workshop introduces you to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Data Catalog and will give you a full tour of the service in a hands-on manner. Data Analysts, Data engineers and Data Stewards are some of the data professionals who can use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Data Catalog and would benefit from this Live Lab.

In this Live Lab, you will create a catalog, connect to data sources like Autonomous Data Warehouse and Object Storage, harvest metadata from them and enrich the technical metadata with business context. Finally, you will see how the catalog can be used to search, discover and understand data available in the data sources.

Lab 0 : Prerequisites
* Setting up users and policies
* Setting up ADW and preparing content

Lab 1:  Create a data catalog
* Create a catalog
* View created instances

Lab 2:  Harvest metadata from Data Warehouse
* Create data asset for ADW
* Harvest from ADW

Lab 3: Harvest metadata from  Oracle Object Storage
* Create data asset for Oracle Object Storage
* Create filename patterns
* Harvest Logical Entities from Obj Store using filename patterns
 
Lab 4:  Manage a Business Glossary
* Create a business glossary
* Import terms and categories from sample glossary
* Create a category and term
* Export a glossary
* Create a custom property

Lab 5:  Enrich metadata
* Populate custom property for a catalog object
* Link Tags 
* Link glossary terms 

Lab 6:  Search and Explore your data
* Use Search and filters
* Use Browse
* Exploring Data Entities/Attributes

  • None, however:
  • Familiarity with Database is desirable, but not required
  • Some understanding of cloud and database terms is helpful
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is helpful
