About This Workshop
Understand the perfect fit that the converged Oracle Database provides for microservice architectures using a variety of data types (JSON Documents, SQL Relational Tables, Spatial, etc.) and languages, using built-in Event Mesh (TxEventQ/Kafka), the unique end-to-end unified observability, scaling, etc. - by building a sample food delivery application ‘GrabDish’ as well as a video game 'Pods of Kon'

Workshop Info

1 hour, 15 minutes
  • Setup OCI VMs, OKE Kubernetes, and Oracle Autonomous Database using terraform infrastructure as code.
  • Build and deploy microservices (k8s deployments, services, database connection secrets, etc.), tables and TxEventQ (plus Kafka) messaging.
  • Data-centric microservices walkthrough exploring various patterns such as event sourcing, CQRS, and Sagas as well as Spatial, JSON, relational, …
  • Polygot Microservices including Java, .NET, JavaScript, Python, PL/SQL, Rust, and WASM and various frameworks including Spring Boot, Helidon, Micronaut, and Quarkus.
  • Scaling the Application and the Database
  • End-to-end Observability: Metrics, Logs, and Tracing of application and INTO database in one console
  • Create a “no code” APEX App to look at the data.
  • Transactional Tests: Compare MongoDB, Postgres, and Kafka to Oracle DB with TEQ/AQ
  • Use the same architecture, build a video game with a Unity frontend
  • Familiarity with Database is desirable, but not required
  • Some understanding of cloud and database terms is helpful
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is helpful
